BETTY’S STORY

Betty Pua Taira

Born in 1958 in Ameku, Okinawa. Moved to Roppongi at the age of five, when Betty's mother remarried. Attended the American School in Japan in Chofu from elementary through high school. Left a junior college in Los Angeles and, to support the mother's business financially, entered the world of hostess work at eighteen while also modeling. The despair of financial insecurity that seemed impossible to escape led to mental instability, and in looking for a way back, Betty began to seek spirituality.

The first book Betty's mother had Betty read was by Joseph Murphy, known in Japan as “Murphy's Law.” That was where the spiritual journey began. Through marriage, childbirth, and divorce, Betty raised two children as a single mother. After experiencing every kind of work to support the household, including office work, network marketing, interpreting, and buying shoes, Betty started a business on the theme of spirituality, which had always been a lifework.

In 1991, to introduce A Course in Miracles to Japan for the first time, Betty invited Tara Singh and organized a lecture at Spiral in Omotesando. Organized Paul Solomon's tour of Egypt. As Charlene Ford's personal interpreter, took part in a tour across Japan and a tour of Sedona. After working as a founding member of The Hunger Project Japan, opened a gallery called Kachofugetsukan in Ichibancho, Chiyoda-ku, in 1997.

At the same time, always pursuing beauty and health of mind and body through spirituality, New Age, mindfulness, detox, and more from around the world, Betty kept attending seminars, tours, and camps in the United States, Peru, India, Egypt, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Philippines, Indonesia, and elsewhere. Learned ear candling from a shaman met in Sedona and introduced it to Japan for the first time. In 1997, opened the ear candle salon Donkame in Harajuku, which won the support of entertainers and artists. When both children reached adulthood, Betty decided to retire in 2005.

Freed from many years of financial pressure, Betty fell into depression at the same time and spent a year shut away at home. Having stepped away from every spiritual practice learned until then, and unable to find the will to do anything, Betty heard from an old seminar friend about a miraculous therapist who was the talk of Los Angeles. Sensing a certainty about something, Betty ended that year of seclusion.

In May 2007, Betty flew to Los Angeles, met Ihaleakala Hew Len at a SITH Ho'oponopono class, and in November of the same year held the first class in Asia, in Tokyo. Since then, as the representative of SITH Ho'oponopono Asia, Betty has organized classes in Japan, Taiwan, Korea, China, Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. In 2017, on the tenth anniversary of SITH Ho'oponopono Asia, Betty retired as organizer and took on the role of director, and at the same time resumed consultations, drawing on every experience to date.
