Betty’s Letter

The Ideal Self, and the Body

Greetings from me!

Hello!

How is everyone doing?

How are you welcoming the arrival of autumn?
Are you fully immersing your heart, mind, and body in each season as it comes, bathing in its light and scents?

How the seasons and I resonate with each other.
Neither fighting nor expecting, but simply being with the season, we seem to be led more smoothly than we think toward solutions to the problems we are carrying now.

By resonating with the season, we can receive many blessings.

If we feel resistance or sentimentality toward the season we are in now, I would like to set aside time to look at it with as quiet an inner eye as possible and see how I want to handle it now—not out of desire or fear, but how I want to handle it and let it go, or whether I want to make it beautiful like a treasure and keep it somewhere in my heart.

Many of the people who come to Betty's Room tell me they do not know what they should do.

Rather than thinking about the future, let us first look at our ideal image of a woman, our ideal image of a man.

That might be someone like Sazae-san, or someone like Audrey Hepburn.

When you look at your ideal woman or ideal man with a calm inner eye, you may come to see who you are now a little more clearly.

And when you look at who you are now from the perspective of your ideal woman, you may, on the contrary, realize that your ideals until now were illusions.

An ideal freed from illusion becomes a simple energy source for who you are now, and brings who you are now into focus. I turn sixty this year, and since this is something I truly feel, please let me share it with you.

My own body,
what makes my thoughts and motivation real is my body. When you want to go to the convenience store, your legs carry you there, and in answer to the wish to drink hot tea, your hands naturally boil the water.
This body is our greatest partner in making things happen. How you care for your body makes a big difference in your life.
When you are unsure of what you want to do, why not stop thinking for a moment and turn your attention to your body?

Enjoy!

The photo is from Camiguin Island in the Philippines, which I visited on vacation: a large tree at the ruins of a church in COTTA BATTO, a phantom town swallowed by a volcano. It was a wonderful place where every story humans had created had lost its form through a disaster, and only the sacredness that is our true nature and the grace that nature holds seemed to resonate quietly.
